Jeff Waters gave the invocation, while Rocky Andresen led the flag salute. Shelton then opened the meeting to a public hearing concerning a proposed street closing.

Elk City High School senior Becky Yang has joined the top 100 seniors in Oklahoma by being named as an Academic All State by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence for being top in her class and in the state. She is also one of seven in the state who scored a perfect 36 on her ACT. She will be honored at the 38th Annual Academic Awards Celebration Sat., May 4th, at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Norman.

Last Week To Request Absentee Ballots For The April 2nd

The deadline to request absentee ballots by mail is approaching. Applications must be received by the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Monday, March 18 th Roger Mills County Election Board Secretary Jana Maddux , said absentee voting is available to all voters and applications can be submitted several ways. “In Oklahoma, no excuse is needed to vote by absentee ballot, and it’s easy to apply! Voters registered in the Hammon School District can submit their application online, in-person, by fax, mail, or even email,” said Jana Maddux . Voters can also apply online using the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ ovp. Applications are also available at the County Election Board or can be downloaded at oklahoma.gov/elections. Maddux reminds voters that only the applicant can submit his or her own absentee ballot application. It is against the law to submit an absentee ballot application for another person. Voters with questions about absentee voting should contact the County Election Board at 833-638-7999 ex. 7 or rogermillscounty@ elections.ok.gov . The Roger Mills County Election Board is located at 500 E. Broadway, Cheyenne, Ok and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday . On Friday March 1st, the Boys Merritt Oilers team earned their ticket to the State Tournament by defeating the Central Sallisaw Tigers in a very close game ending 42-40 at the Stride Center in Enid, OK. The first game of the State Tournament was on Wednesday, at 9:00 p.m., so there was no time for this article to get the results, which will be published on the edition of March 16. Top scorers for the Oilers were Luke Peffer with 17, Caden Smith with 11 and Joshua Ligo with 8. With the game going to the last few seconds, both teams had a chance to win, but Oilers prevailed with a great defense and great shooting when it counted.
