Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) proudly announces its alumna, 2017 & 2019 graduate Rhetta Cypert of Walla Walla (WA), as the 2024 North Family Endowed Lecturer in Parks & Recreation Management. The lecture will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 5, in the North Family Building at Crowder Lake University Park, south of Weatherford.

The Collegiate Activities Board (CAB) at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) is hosting its annual Bulldog Blitz talent show on Thursday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center.

Spring 2024 began yesterday on 3/19, and will end on Friday, 6/21, when summer officially begins. By June, I am sure it will feel more like summer than spring! I do not look forward to the Oklahoma summer heat at all.

MARRIAGE LICENSES

The Merritt High School Oilerettes played before a packed stadium at the famous “Big House” in Oklahoma City over the weekend in the Oklahoma State 2A State Tournament. The Merritt ladies were joined by the Merritt Oilers in the boys’ bracket, being the only unseated team to make it to the state games. While the boys were beat out in the semi-finals, the Oilerettes brought home victories in all three games.

Kari Johnson, Sayre Public Schools fifth grade literature teacher, saw an opportunity to excite her students about their upcoming book reports. She seized the moment.

The Red Carpet Community Theatre has welcomed Benjamin Dobbs to the stage numerous times over the past few years. He began his acting career 17 years ago on the Southwest Playhouse stage in Clinton. His first role was playing Will Parker in “Oklahoma.” Since that time, he has become a veteran in almost all aspect of theatre, except directing.

I recently received this email from a worried parent: “Dr. Dixie, technology causes constant contention with my teenagers. Cell phones make it easier to sync our schedules, but it seems I’m always talking to the top of their heads while they stare at their phones! When I insist they put the phones down, there’s an argument. I just want to “unplug” sometimes! Where do I even start?”

Ofilia DeLeon was born October 13th, 1929 in Millett, Texas to Pascula (Garcia) and Guadelupe Sierra. She passed away in Norman, Oklahoma on Monday, February 26th, 2024 at the age of 94 years, 4 months and 13 days.
