ABOUT US

In 1987, Brad and Dayva Spitzer chartered the weekly newspaper "The Sayre Record" to establish a locally owned hometown media for their community and county.

In 1997 the Spitzers purchased The Erick Beckham County Democrat weekly newspaper in the sister city of Erick just to the West of Sayre.  The two newspapers became a single publication known as "The Sayre Record and Beckham County Democrat.”

In August of 2017, the name was changed to The Beckham County Record and the news coverage began spreading east into Elk City, providing comprehensive news coverage throughout Beckham County, offering a wide variety of community, school, and agriculture news for Sayre, Elk City, and Erick.

On July 1, 2019, the Spitzers sold the Beckham County Record to Cordell, OK, natives, Scott Wesner and Scott Wood, who publish newspapers in Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma, including The Elk City News.
