The Senate just passed its third major deadline of this legislative session. House bills had to pass a Senate committee by April 11 to continue advancing through the Legislature. Now, the Senate is done with the bulk of its committee work for this session. Of the 424 pieces of House legislation that came to the Senate, 330 bills passed out of committees. Across the Capitol rotunda, 234 Senate bills advanced out of House committees. Many of the bills that were approved in committees are just one step away from advancing to the governor’s desk. Now, my chamber will focus on hearing House bills and amended Senate bills on the floor.

Mangum man arrested for charges of assault on a police officer, larceny, and obstructing an officer

A 49-year-old Mangum man was charged in the Beckham County District Court on April 10 with charges of assault on a police officer, larceny, and obstructing an officer. At approximately 10:06 am on April 9, Elk City police were dispatched to the Elk City Walmart for a possible shoplifter who had reportedly left the building with stolen items. The suspect was identified as Jason Bruffy.

Arrest warrant issued for Clinton man for charges of a felon in possession of a firearm

A 65-year-old Clinton man was charged with unlawful actions related to licensed dealers and private sellers of firearms and any convicted felon in possession of any firearm in the Beckham County District Court on April 15. The investigation began with an Elk City Police Department detective on February 11, when he reportedly received a teletype tip from the National Crime Center informing the ECPD of a firearms transaction that had been denied.
