Canute school family: Unfortunately, the 2024 Student Investment Plan was not approved by the required 60% of voters. While this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we respect the decision of voters who took the time to cast their ballot today.

A 34-year-old Noble man is being held on a $20,000 bond in the Beckham County Detention Center after being arrested for domestic abuse resulting in great bodily injury.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Secretary of Agriculture Blayne Arthur is back in Oklahoma following a productive week at the NASDA 2024 Winter Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. Arthur, who is the President of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, led meetings and discussions about agricultural policies that impact Oklahomans, as well as the rest of the United States. “Ag policy is incredibly important for all of our farmers and ranchers,” Arthur said. “The chance to sit around the table and carry forward a message from our home states to the federal level will hopefully have a positive impact on ag policy.” One of the biggest policy priorities discussed at the conference was the passage of a unified farm bill. An updated bill is critical to farmers, the rural economy, and communities of every size. The bill must ensure that farmers have a reliable safety net and consumers have access to safe and affordable food.

As prom approaches, the Elk City High School’ s Fashion Design class has been designing their own newspaper formal gowns under the direction of their teacher, Brycee Bonner. The class was randomly put into two different fashion teams to approach the project. They were given their instructions and then started the project.

MISDEMEANORS

A 33-year-old Elk City man is being held on a $50,000 bond in the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with possession of a synthetic controlled substance with the intent to distribute and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The SWOSU College of Pharmacy will be hosting a Pharmacy Day for high school juniors and seniors on Wednesday, March 6th from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This program will consist of handson, interactive lab activities conducted by faculty and students at the College of Pharmacy as well as prizes, giveaways, and lunch provided at the SWOSU Student Union. Established in 1939, the College of Pharmacy at SWOSU has positioned itself as one of the best educational values for pharmacy in the nation. Given the nationwide shortage of both pharmacists and pharmacy students, this is a great time to consider the profession. The goal is to educate high school students about the pharmacy program at SWOSU and the many exciting opportunities currently available to graduates with a pharmacy degree. There is a 60-student limit for this event, and it is first-come, first-served. Students can register directly, or school officials can register for multiple students to attend. STILLWATER, OKLA., Feb. 9, 2024 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Oklahoma State Director Kenneth Corn announced today that the Biden-Harris Administration is investing $533,000 to support the growth of three agriculture producers in Oklahoma expand business operations via the USDA Rural Development Value-Added Producer grant. The Value- Added Producer Grant program helps agricultural producers enter value-added activities to generate new products, create and expand marketing opportunities, and increase producer income.

Eighth grade students in Northfork Electric Cooperative’s service area have the opportunity to experience leadership and energy in a whole new light this summer. Applications are now sought for the 2024 session of Youth Power Energy Camp held annually at Canyon Camp in Hinton.
