Last Week To Request Absentee Ballots For February 13th Election

The deadline to request absentee ballots by mail is approaching. Applications must be received by the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Monday, January 29 th.

There is a new deadline for items to be put in the paper which means that I have to turn this column in by 3:00 on Wednesdays beginning this week, as they will be publishing on Saturdays now. So, for me, I need anything you want in the column by Tuesday evenings each week, so I have time to put it in because I have a full time day job that keeps me busy.

Letter to the Editor from Locally Supported Christmas Project

Dear Editor, Generosity throughout Sayre contributed to a successful shoebox gift collection season at drop-off locations for the Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child. Across the U.S., the project collected 10 million shoebox gifts in 2023. Combined with those collected from partnering countries in 2023, the ministry is now sending over 11.3 million shoebox gifts to children worldwide, including many who are suffering from war, poverty, disease and disaster.

“The Opposing Thumb Guy”

Take a good look. It’s always there, part of a healthy, whole hand. Hold up your hand and you’ll see it. The one digit that is pointing the opposite of the other four fingers, every time. Oh yeah, you can force it to go along with all the others, but you do have to work at it. Usually, it just naturally sticks out to the side, like “a sore thumb.” It’s always just a little different and obstinately curving away from all the others - but it sure serves a great purpose.

9th Grade Class Super Bowl Fundraiser

The fundraiser is a “Name Square”. Each Square is $10. Which, more than one square may be purchased. Your name will then be placed on a random square by the class sponsors. Once the 10 by 10 Square is full, it will be released. If more than 100 people purchase a square, the sponsors will make a second square. After each quarter of the Super Bowl Game, a winner will be determined from the scores of both teams. So, if the score after the 1st quarter is 14 to 7, the person in the corresponding square of 14 and 7 is the winner.
