The Elk City School Board met for its regularly scheduled meeting on April 8 at the Elk City Board of Education.

The board first approved March’s meeting minutes.

The superintendent’s financial report showed Elk City Schools to be on budget as expected. Superintendent Mike Sparks stated, as he has previously, that inflation increases have created financial strain, but that the school board had anticipated this when preparing this year’s budget. He praised the board’s foresight in preparing for this challenge.

The board approved the street drug collection for the 2024-2025 contract.

The board approved capacity limits for Elk City Public Schools to accept transfer students at each site and grade level for the current quarter.

The board approved Mike Sparks and Elk City Public Schools to participate in the 20242025 Leverage Leaderships Institute Cohort.

Superintendent Sparks explained, “Based on the academic growth achievements by our students and staff, ECPS was invited to apply to participate in the 2024-2025 cohort for the Leverage Leadership Institute. Twenty-five school leaders from across the country participate in intentional school leadership training to further develop future school leaders and ensure continuous school improvement. To my knowledge, ECPS is the only school in Oklahoma.”

The institute provides a scholarship for participating schools and will not cost Elk City Public Schools money to participate.

The board approved employment for Phouvanh Syribouth and Austin Hufford for the upcoming school year.
