A 40-year-old Elk City man is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center on two $50,000 bonds for a combined $100,000 bond. Cody Ray James is being charged with domestic assault and battery, domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, joyriding, and injury to an emergency worker. The investigation began at approximately 5:19 pm on April 3 when the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office received a call advising that James had allegedly tried to hit a man with his truck and wrecked into a tree.
The alleged victim also reportedly stated that James had hit him with a board three times.
When officer arrived, James was reportedly found in a small building made of cinder blocks.
He allegedly threw a sign at law enforcement and ran off.
James was reportedly tased during the incident while running from officers.
On that same day, James had been taken to Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
He allegedly spit upon a nurse and assaulted two nurses.
