OKLAHOMA CITY – Since 1991, the Beef Checkoff-funded National Beef Quality Audit (NBQA) has delivered a set of guideposts and measurements for cattle producers and other stakeholders to help determine quality conformance of the U.S. beef supply. Results from the 2022 NBQA indicate that the beef cattle industry is producing a high-quality product that consumers want more efficiently and the industry’s primary focus across the supply chain remains food safety.

Donovan James Young was born on November 5, 2000, which just happens to be the birthday of his great grandfather, O.J. Herndon. Donovan was born in Elk City, OK to James “Jamie” Young and Laura Herndon Young. He was named after one grandfather and one great grandfather. James from James Young Sr. and Donovan from Don Mulliinex. Donovan passed away at the age of 22 on June 10, 2023 at his home in Liberty, TX. His family was blessed to have him as our own. He held a special place in our hearts. His family included many, some by blood and some by choice.

Erick will be celebrating the 4th of July this coming Saturday, 7/1, beginning at the city park with several activities planned for that day. The events will kick off at 9:00 a.m. with the frog, turtle and 3 legged races, egg toss and egg roll, followed by the always entertaining boat race. Get your boats started and remember the guidelines on the boats are that it has to be made with tape and cardboard, with a two person team and they must be able to swim. You aca use real boat paddles or make your own. The fireworks display will be around dark-thirty that same evening as always. Be sure to clean up your area afterwards if you plan on popping your own football field parking lot. Everyone have a great weekend and 4th of July!

Lake lovers come from all over western Oklahoma to participate in the 33rd annual Foss Lake Christmas in July Festival. Coordinators Joe and Neva Pyatt are getting ready to host the anticipated event that celebrates the holiday season. This year it will kick off Friday afternoon, July 7th, from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., and run through Sat., July 8th, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. There will be free parking throughout the weekend.

First, only take medications that are prescribed for you and at the recommended times and dosages. Second, keep medications stored securely, and lastly, dispose of unused or expired medications safely. To help readers store their medication securely, the Beckham County Coalition offers FREE MEDICATION LOCK BOXES. And to help dispose of unused or expired medications safely, we offer FREE AT-HOME DISPOSAL KITS. These items can be picked up locally from Coalition members and partners.
