STILLWATER, OKLA., Feb. 9, 2024 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Oklahoma State Director Kenneth Corn announced today that the Biden-Harris Administration is investing $533,000 to support the growth of three agriculture producers in Oklahoma expand business operations via the USDA Rural Development Value-Added Producer grant. The Value- Added Producer Grant program helps agricultural producers enter value-added activities to generate new products, create and expand marketing opportunities, and increase producer income.

Lisa Friesen, Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) has been awarded a substantial grant of $1,034,341 over three years through the USDA Rural Development Learning and Telemedicine Program.

The SWOSU College of Pharmacy will be hosting a Pharmacy Day for high school juniors and seniors on Wednesday, March 6th from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This program will consist of handson, interactive lab activities conducted by faculty and students at the College of Pharmacy as well as prizes, giveaways, and lunch provided at the SWOSU Student Union. Established in 1939, the College of Pharmacy at SWOSU has positioned itself as one of the best educational values for pharmacy in the nation. Given the nationwide shortage of both pharmacists and pharmacy students, this is a great time to consider the profession. The goal is to educate high school students about the pharmacy program at SWOSU and the many exciting opportunities currently available to graduates with a pharmacy degree. There is a 60-student limit for this event, and it is first-come, first-served. Students can register directly, or school officials can register for multiple students to attend. A 34-year-old Noble man is being held on a $20,000 bond in the Beckham County Detention Center after being arrested for domestic abuse resulting in great bodily injury.

A 37-year-old Elk City woman is being held on a $10,000 bail in the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with child neglect, possession of drug paraphernalia and use of drug paraphernalia.

A 33-year-old Elk City man is being held on a $50,000 bond in the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with possession of a synthetic controlled substance with the intent to distribute and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Canute school family: Unfortunately, the 2024 Student Investment Plan was not approved by the required 60% of voters. While this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we respect the decision of voters who took the time to cast their ballot today.

The deadline to request absentee ballots by mail is approaching. Applications must be received by the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Monday, February 19 th .
