Elk City man jailed for felony drug charge

A 23-year-old Elk City man is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center on a $6,000 bond after being charged with maintaining a dwelling or building for keeping or selling a controlled dangerous substance. The investigation began at approximately 7 am on May 5 when Elk City Police Department officers served an authorized search warrant and an arrest warrant on the 1120 block of West A Avenue.

A 33-year-old Elk City man has been released from the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with domestic assault and battery resulting in great bodily injury. Although the charges were officially filed on May 13, the report states the investigation began in September. The reporting party claimed that a guest had been “beat up by her boyfriend.”

ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO, MAY 1924

The Christian Church was crowded to capacity for the Memorial Day Service. A parade was headed by the Elk City Band followed by American Legion members in uniform and several organizations represented with floats and decorated cars. The American Legion float was a cemetery scene in Flanders Field with its twenty-four white crosses and a Red Cross nurse scattering flowers on the graves. The United Daughters of the Confederacy, the KKK and the American Legion Auxiliary were also represented. Following the service, the firing squad fired a salute over the graves at the cemetery and taps were sounded. All ex-soldiers’ graves were decorated.
