OKLAHOMA CITY (August 21, 2023) – The Oklahoma Beef Council is pleased to announce an online payment system for the Beef Checkoff. The payment process is facilitated by the Bank of Oklahoma through its partnership with Transfund, one of the leading ATM networks and debit, credit, and merchant payments processors in the nation. A secure system for credit card and ACH payments was OBC’s priority when setting up this system. Payment by check will continue to be accepted, but OBC wanted to make payment as easy as possible for all producers.

Elk City Varsity Elkettes defeated Little Axe Varsity Indians 7-1 on Friday thanks in part to four runs in the first inning. Aubrie Pogue tripled, scoring one run, Emily Lowrance drew a walk, scoring one run, and Daycie Newman doubled, scoring two runs.

Hammon Varsity Lady Warriors scored 13 runs in the fifth inning, which helped them defeat Sayre Varsity Lady Eagles 16-3 on Tuesday.

Kayde Herndon drove in five runs on one hit to lead Merritt Varsity Oilerettes FP past Mooreland Varsity LadyCats 10-4 on Thursday. In the sixth inning, Herndon hit a grand slam to center field.

Elk City High School Cross Country runners improved their times in the second Meet of the season. The team competed against 227 runners at the Watonga Cross Country Invitational on August 26.

Joe Francis, native of Beckham County, went to be with our Lord on August 18. Joe was born December 20, 1931, in his parents’ home in Texola to Earl and Sybil Francis where Earl was serving as an accomplished Banker and County Commissioner. The family moved to Sayre a few years later where Earl was elected to serve 4 terms as County Sheriff. Joe spent a few years of his early life at the County Jail where his family made residence and care taking for inmates.

A Hammon man has been released on bond on a $7,500 bond for charges of possession of a stolen or converted vehicle, possession of a vehicle with the intent to deprive the owner, and knowingly possessing stolen property.

The Labor Day Holiday is coming up this next Monday, 9/4, and I know most of us are looking forward to a 3–4-day break from work also. Hopefully, this long hot summer will come to an end soon too! Fall can’t arrive soon enough for me.
