A 39-year-old Elk City man who was already being detained at the Beckham County Detention Center received additional charges this week after allegedly attacking a Beckham County Sheriff’s Office detention officer.

Cody Ray James was charged with malicious injuries to property if the value loss is less than $2,500, resisting an officer by means of force or violence, and assault and battery upon a police officer on November 6 in the Beckham County District Court.

The investigation began at approximately 2:58 pm on October 18 when the Beckham County Sheriff’s Officer received a call for help from the Beckham County Courthouse.

At approximately 2:59 pm, two BCSO detention officers were escorting James out of the courtroom.

While returning to the detention center, James allegedly told one of the officers not to touch him.

The three were in front of the detention center at approximately 3:01 pm.

James then allegedly pushed one of the officers against the building and “started to fight” the officers.

The officers were able to get James through the front door of the detention center when a third detention officer arrived.

That officer reportedly “drive stunned” James, and he then complied.

James was remanded into detained into custody but has since been released on a $10,000 bond.

He is due back in the Beckham County District Court on December 11.
