Elk City School Board holds November meeting

The Elk City School Board held their regularly scheduled meeting at the Elk City Board of Education at 6 pm on November 16.

The Elk City School Board held their regularly scheduled meeting at the Elk City Board of Education at 6 pm on November 16.

The meeting lasted approximately 25 minutes and was primarily normal upkeep on the agenda items.

The school’s finances remain on target for the projections at the beginning of the fiscal year.

The board also approved the calendar for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Superintendent Mike Sparks also summarized the school’s academic report card. Sparks is preparing a fuller academic report and will be available after the Thanksgiving Break.

“We received the maximum number of math growth points at the Intermediate School and Middle School. The Elementary raised math by 9 points and reading proficiency by 9 points. Elk City students performed above the state average in all but two categories. The State Department of Education collects data on graduation rates at the high school continued an upward trend in consecutive years. From the time we started, our current data-driven, instruction-model MS math has gained over 80 points from where we first started. Intermediate 60 plus points reading Proficiency has increased 20 % from where we were two years ago,” Sparks explained.
