Oklahoma RD Announces to Oklahoma Farmers, Ranchers and Rural Businesses to Invest

STILLWATER – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Oklahoma State Director Kenneth Corn announced today that USDA will accept applications starting on Oct. 1 for grants to help agricultural producers and rural small businesses invest in renewable energy systems and make energy-efficiency improvements. USDA has made available $1 billion in grants under the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), with funding from President Biden’s landmark Inflation Reduction Act, which has made historic levels of investment available to Oklahoma and is recognized as the best way to grow the economy from the middle out and bottom up.

From all that I saw and have heard, the Purple People Eater Fest was great success! Now we have another something to look forward to as well, as Sam’s Town on 66 is hosting “Sam’s Fest” this coming Saturday, 10/7, from 5:00 p.m. until sunset that evening. There will be a cookout with all proceeds going to Toys for Tots. Lots of activities and fun for everyone are planned for the evening including music and Karaoke, storytelling, horseshoes and corn-hole games plus tours of this unique place that Sam Hagan has created, being described as a journey through history and art. Commissioners Hear from City Supervisors

The Elk City Commissioners held their regular meeting, Wed. Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. in City Hall. Mayor Cory Spieker opened the meeting with an invocation, followed by Rocky Andresen leading the flag salute. City Inspector Jackie Addington was first on the agenda with the public hearing for dilapidated structures.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) has conducted annual roadside quail surveys in August and October since 1990 to provide an index of annual population fluctuations. The number of quail observed are reported to provide an index of quail abundance and an indicator of reproductive success.
