Officers of the Elk City FFA chapter participated in the 2023 Oklahoma FFA Chapter Officer Leadership Training Conference Sept. 19 at the Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton, Oklahoma.

ELK CITY – Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma will host an informational meeting for parents of girls interested in joining a local Girl Scout Troop from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7 at One Church, located at 200 E. Broadway Ave.

Families are invited out to the Merritt Football Field for a movie night. e senior class has announced the event to take place Friday, Oct. 6th, at 8 p.m. e cost is $5 per person, and the movie will be “Peter Pan & Wendy,” a PG rated feature.

Western Technology Center celebrates this every day as it works with business and industry and high school and adult students to meet the needs within our communities with skilled training and a ready workforce.

I read an interesting article this week about the rigorous demands made upon the soldiers who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. Applicants for guard duty at the Tomb must be between 5’ 10’ and 6’ 2’ tall; waist size cannot exceed 30 inches. They commit to two years; living in barracks under the Tomb.

A 31-year-old Sayre woman has been released from the Beckham County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond after being charged with child neglect.

The Sayre First United Methodist Church is offering a scholarship in the amount of $3000 for the spring semester. It is for adults seeking to further their education. This scholarship is for those residing in Beckham & Roger Mills County and may be used at a Career Tech school, University or Jr. College. A 19-year-old Elk City man is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center on a combined $150,000 bond after being charged with first-degree rape.
