After a fatal collision occurred last week in rural Beckham County, a nearby resident was quoted on statewide news saying that it sounded like an explosion.
The collision occurred at approximately 3:06 pm on November 21 at the intersection of Route 66 North and Oklahoma Highway 34 approximately three miles west of Elk City.
The collision occurred between a 2015 Toyota, reportedly driven by 43-year-old Jose Paxtor Oxlaj of Los Angeles, and a 2021 F250 Ford pickup, driven by a 40-yearold Sayre man.
Paxtor Oxlaj was transported to Great Plains Regional Medical Center and released with arm injuries.
The Ford’s driver was reportedly not injured.
However, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s report listed six passengers as injured or deceased due to the collision.
The victims’ names and ages were withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin.
Six passengers reportedly died at the scene.
One passenger was reportedly transported to OU Medical Center by Air Evacuation in critical condition with arm, head, internal trunk, external trunk, and leg injuries.
The report states that child restraints were not used for two of the passengers.
Three of the Nissan’s passengers were pinned.
The report does not indicate which driver was at fault and states that the collision is still under investigation.
However, Oxlaj was charged with first-degree manslaughter and is currently being held on a $50,000 bond at the Beckham County Detention Center.
More information will be available next week with the release of Oxlaj’s probable cause affidavit.
