WOFCC Hosts Community Christmas Dinner

Once again, the Western Oklahoma Family Care Center will have a free traditional holiday meal for the community on Dec. 25th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Elk City Convention Center. Poppy’s Pit and Grill will be catering the meal. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be present for the kids, along with door prizes and individual prizes for attendees.

The Elk City Police Department, the Elk City Fire Department, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol will be escorting the mayor, Cory Speiker, and the Elk City High School students from the Pioneer Center, located on Pioneer between 3rd Street and Country Club, to Walmart, located at 210 Regional, on Saturday, Dec. 2nd, at 10 a.m. to help with the Mayor’s Toy Drive. This is an opportunity to be a part of this holiday event to help local children in need of toys for Christmas.

Christmas Basket Begins Fund Drive

The Elk City Christmas Basket, sponsored by the Elk City Ministerial Alliance has begun it’s Christmas Basket fund raising drive for the 2023 Christmas season. This program was begun in the mid 1930’s during the Great Depression by Paul Wade the late editor of the Elk City Daily News and continued by his son, the late LarryWade. Ithascontinuouslyprovidedfood items for approximately 85 years to people in need at Christmas time. This is possible thanks to the generosity of individuals in the Elk City area.

The annual Community Christmas Memorial sponsored by Comforting Hands Hospice and the Elk City Chamber of Commerce will take place Friday, Dec. 1st, at 6 p.m. at Carnegie Hall, located at 215 W. Broadway in Elk City. The event is designed to help family and friends to remember those they have lost but never forgotten during the holiday season.
