(OKLAHOMA CITY) – July 1, 2024 – The Oklahoma Veterans Commission announced on Monday the appointment of Rear Admiral James (Jay) Bynum, USN (Ret.) as the new Executive Director of the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs. Bynum will officially begin his role on August 1, 2024.

Sweetwater Public Schools celebrates Summer Reading

A 69-year-old Elk City man is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center on a $1,000 bond after being charged with attempting to perform an act of violence to cause serious injury or death and possession of a drug paraphernalia.

Suspect allegedly tried to take former employee’s vehicle for repayment on CDL license

A 17-year-old Elk City male was pronounced dead following a vehicle collision two miles east of Strong City in Roger Mills County.

A 34-year-old Elk City man is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with domestic assault and battery by strangulation. The arrest affidavit states that the alleged victim reported on June 26 that she had been assaulted and strangled on two separate occasions by Justin Edward Noblitt three days earlier.

On July 4, our nation annually celebrates its independence with waving flags, picnics, and parades. Some churches deck their sanctuary with red, white, and blue; other Christians virtually ignore this and other national holidays. This raises the question, “How should a believer think about patriotism– the support of our country, and our desire to defend it against enemies or detractors, visible and invisible?”
