Mothers
Mothers

May is the month we celebrate a very select and specific group of women. To be a part of this elite community, one must be born with a very specialized ability: ovaries and a womb that are capable of conceiving and carrying a new human life to birth. The term “mother” applies equally to a biological woman who cannot conceive, but enters motherhood through fostering or adoption. Being a mother is often wonderfully rewarding and often diffi cult and painful. In Genesis, after the first man and woman disobeyed God, He told the woman, “You will bear children with painful effort.” God was referring not only the pain of childbirth, but the pain of mothering in a world that opposes and demeans life and godliness at every turn.

The 2023 State FFA Convention
The 2023 State FFA Convention

Twenty-five Elk City FFA members attended the state convention. During the convention, 6 sessions were held in the BOK Arena. At the beginning of each session, chapter members got to witness a talent show and listen to 3 contestants at a time. After the talent show, chapter members then watched their FFA state officers conduct opening ceremonies with a laser light show. After the opening ceremonies, members then got to listen to multiple speakers, one of which was Jane Herlong (winner of the 1979 Miss South Carolina pageant). Another speaker was state superintendent Ryan Walters. Also during most of the sessions members were able to listen to candidates interview for state office and during some of the interviews delegates from different chapters were able to vote on the candidates. The state ffa choir also performed at each session held. After all of the events during the sessions were done, the state FFA officers did their closing ceremonies, ending that session.

United States flag facts and handling etiquette

The United States flag was first imagined after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The Continental Congress authorized creation of the first national flag on June 14, 1777. It was decided that the flag should have 13 stripes, alternating red and white, to represent the original 13 colonies, and that the new union be represented by 13 white stars in a blue field to signify a 'new constellation.' Francis Hopkinson, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, is most often credited with the original design.
