WOHS Prepares for Flea Market

The Board of Directors of the Western Oklahoma Historical Society met for their regular monthly meeting on Mon., Aug. 28th, at 11 a.m. in Elk City’s Western Technology Center. President Judy Haught opened the meeting, and Doug Haught gave the invocation. The minutes were approved, as was the treasurer’s report.

The Standing Committee reports opened with Beverly Jordan updating the board on the progress of the flea market. This will be the 50th Annual Route 66 Flea Market. It will take place Oct. 6th through the 8th in Ackley Park. It starts on Friday at 8 a.m. with vendors setting up on Thursday evening. All vendors must stay until 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

To date there are 47 vendors that have rented 72 spaces, and there are six food booths who will be present throughout the weekend. Spaces are still available for rent and must be paid for prior to the opening morning. It was reported that artist Steve Shirley has removed his art display. He art can be seen in the Paseo District in Oklahoma City. The next update that was given was about the Pat and LV Baker picture. They now have it, but are deciding where it will hang.

Curator Charles Wren reported that there will be a new Cheyenne Arapaho display. He also noted that they will be getting a Tommy Frank Museum traveling display. It will be seen in the Transportation Building.

Carla Garrison gave an update about the docents. They will be having a meeting, and they would like volunteers that will be available for bus tours. They will discuss it at their meeting next Tuesday.

The next meeting will take place on Monday, Sept. 25th at 11 a.m. in WTC, Elk City.
