Dads do a lot for their families, and Father’s Day is the perfect time to acknowledge those efforts. The days when dads would receive a colorful necktie for Father’s Day are largely (and, for fathers, thankfully) a relic of the past. OKLAHOMA CITY – 15 students from across Oklahoma have been selected to serve on the 2023-24 Oklahoma Agriculture Youth Council. The council is hosted by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.
CASA of Western Oklahoma is excited to announce our newest CASA volunteers! They have completed 30 hours of in service training and are ready to serve our 5 counties. Those counties include, Custer, Beckham, Washita, Roger Mills and Dewey. Our CASA Volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children in western Oklahoma who are in the foster care system. We are thankful that these 5 incredible individuals raised their hand and said yes to being a voice for our CASA kids!.
The Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) Dawg Days Organizational Fair is planned for Wednesday, August 30 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. outside the Memorial Student Center on the Weatherford campus. The annual fair will showcase SWOSU student organizations, local businesses, and churches.
A 45-year-old Elk City woman is being held at the Beckham County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond after being charged with failing to register as a sex offender and two counts of residing within 2,000 feet of a school, park, or daycare.
Prior to the regular Elk City Commission meeting Monday, June 5th, Representative Nick Archer announced that the legislature passed two emergency programs that will secure $2.5 million for the City of Elk City. On June 2nd HB 1017x the Emergency Relief and Impacts Grant Program was passed by a vote of 94 to three, along with HB 1020x Appropriated Funds to Emergency Funds to Emergency Management and Homeland Security that passed by 91 to four. Both bills go into effect immediately because they were declared an emergency.

Sunshine and smiles all the way around for golfers and members of Sayre Kiwanis Club on Saturday, May 27th at Sayre National Golf Course. “This is our biggest fundraiser for the year,” says tournament chairperson Craig Puckett, “we closed out with twenty-six two-man teams. This could not have happened without the support of our loyal and amazing sponsors”.
