Thanksgiving week is here, and the day of culinary over-indulgence, shopping and football has been celebrated. Gratitude sometimes gets lost in the multitude of other things so let’s consider the intense necessity of gratitude as a lifestyle especially when life is dif. cult and disap- pointing; rather than just one day annually, in good and plentiful times.

Elk City – As part of National Rural Health Day, Great Plains Regional Medical Center, today announced it has been recognized with a 2023 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in Outcomes. Compiled by the Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards honor top quartile performance (i.e., 75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals in Quality, Outcomes and Patient Perspective.

The Annual Augusta Metcalfe Art Competition was held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Break O’ Day Farm & Metcalfe Museum. In total, there were 442 entries from 9 schools. There were 103 winning entries and $1,810 was given as award money. This competition began in 2004 and each year the entries get better and better. There is an exceptionally talented group of young artists in our area and some great instructors who helped their students develop their artistic skills.

Channel catfish fair on chicken liver, crawfish, cut bait, dough bait, hot dogs, live bait, punch bait, shad, shrimp, stinkbait, and worms around channels, river channel, and tailwater. Mackynsie McKedy from McLoud, majoring in Music Therapy at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU), earned the title of Miss SWOSU 2024 at the recent Miss SWOSU Scholarship Pageant held on Saturday, Nov. 11.
