Mullin Leads Black Vulture Relief Act to Protect Farmers and Ranchers from Burdensome Federal Overreach

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (ROK) along with Sens. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) and Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), introduced the Black Vulture Relief Act to allow farmers and ranchers to protect their newborn livestock from black vultures without burdensome government interference. Mullin’s legislation provides regulatory relief by allowing farmers and ranchers to take black vultures anytime the birds threaten their livestock without a depredation permit.

One Hundred Years Ago, December 1923

December saw lots of train and building news, some snow and sleet, and letters to Santa Claus. Despite a special meeting called to endorse the bridge bond issue of $300,000 (over $5,268,000 in today’s values), it was roundly defeated by a vote of over two to one. John Dewees and his brother were awarded the contract for a new brick building. The new structure was built for Arthur Burke and Matt Krontz who would each occupy half the building. Burke was to open a tailor shop and Krontz a restaurant.

The Elk City Rotary Club met Thursday, at noon, Nov. 30th, for their regular weekly meeting. President Lake Carpenter called the meeting to order and made announcements about upcoming Rotary events. Those include manning Christmas in the Park on Dec. 16th, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Meals on Wheels during the month of January.

WASHINGTON, DC – Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Tim Scott (R-SC) introduced the Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act. This legislation protects child welfare providers from being discriminated against for acting in accordance with their deeply held religious beliefs and prohibits federal, state and local government agencies that receive federal adoption assistance funding from discriminating against child welfare service providers based on the providers’ unwillingness to take action contrary to their sincerely held religious beliefs.
