A 24-year-old suspect, in an alleged drive-by attempt, received two new charges after his probable cause affidavit was officially filed in the Beckham County District Court last week.

I received this irate letter from a young person in response to last week’s column: “Dr. Dixie, I’m healthy, just out of college, newly employed and self-supporting. I like sex! I’m tired of religious “dinosaurs” like you trying to make me feel guilty. It’s time for you to come out of the dark ages and realize you can’t make us hate sex. Give it up!”

DEAR ABBY: I am an unhappily married woman with young children. I am attracted to a friend of mine and my husband’s, but he is also married. He’s a bit older, and I can’t tell for sure if he has feelings for me, but sometimes I suspect it. He has made me jewelry and gifts, and I’ve caught him looking at me a few times.

The Indigenous Student Association (ISA) at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) will be hosting the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes’ Tradition Not Addiction program. Christian Wassana, founder of the motivational movement, “I Am, I Can, I Will,” is the guest speaker for this event, as he has worked closely with the youth and young adults about drug and alcohol prevention, culture, mental health, and suicide prevention.

The Elk City Commissioners met for their regular mid-month meeting, Tues., Jan 17th, at 2 p.m., in City Hall. All commissioners were present except Rocky Andresen. Mayor Cory Spieker gave the invocation, while Rick Shelton led the flag salute. They approved the minutes from the Jan. 2nd meeting, then went straight into item one on the agenda.

Western Technology Center- Burns Flat honored students during a recent Awards Assembly to recognize students who had perfect attendance during the Fall semester, and recognizing students with an Outstanding Attitude and/ or achieving the Outstanding Student Award per training program. Burns Flat awarded 128 students with a Perfect Attendance Award. Keep up the good work students!

SOUTHEAST Blue River: January 16. Elevation is normal and stable, water temperature 33°F and clear. (USGS Lake Level) Rainbow trout good on in-line spinnerbaits, midges, nymphs, PowerBait, small lures, spoons, and worms around brush structure, creek channels, and rocks. Comments: About 90% of the river is frozen over right now. The only water that is not frozen over is the water right above and below falls.
