Since 1995 Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has given away 2.5 million free high-quality, age-appropriate books each month to children around the world until the child turns five years old. The Beckham County’s Imagination Library is joining her in the celebration of the 200 million milestone with a special bookmark delivery. The bookmarks will be mailed out to seven lucky winners in September.

The Elk City Chamber of Commerce and the Elk City Rodeo Association are looking for individuals and organizations to participate in the 85th Annual Rodeo Parade. This year it will take place Sat., Sept. 2nd, at 10 a.m. The deadline to enter is Aug. 24th. Return the entry form to the Elk City Chamber of Commerce, located at the corner of Main and Broadway.
Last call as the 2024 Senior Class will be selling Colorado peaches, pears, and honey from Cunningham Orchards in Palisade, CO, as a fundraiser for their senior trip. The order deadline is 8/11. Money is due at the time of order placement. Delivery will be on Saturday, 8/27. Boxes of peaches sell for $50.00; a box of pears will be $35.00; and a jar of honey is $15.00. They are not offering half boxes at this time.

Northfork Electric Cooperative’s 84th Annual Meeting will be held under the pavilion at the Sayre Municipal Park on Saturday, August 19th. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., and all members that register their attendance will receive an NFEC cap and a paring knife.

The Beckham County fair will be begin Thursday, September 7th entering the front building exhibits from 4-7pm. Entries will also be taken on Friday September 8th from 9-11am with judging beginning at 1pm. The exhibit part of the building will be closed during judging and will reopen at 4pm.
STILLWATER – The inaugural Oklahoma State University Future of Work Summit will be Thursday, Aug. 31 and Friday, Sept. 1 at the Oklahoma City Convention Center. This multi-day summit will examine the rapidly changing facets of work and showcase ways organizations can stay ahead of the curve. Interactive sessions will include topics related to evolving workplace cultures, technology integration, workforce agility and much more.
Drug overdose is one of the world’s worst public health crises. According to the Oklahoma Department of Health, from 2007 to 2016 opioids were the most common drug involved in overdose deaths in Oklahoma. Fentanyl overdose deaths more than doubled from 47 in 2019 to 127 in 2020.
