The Elk City Chamber of Commerce and the Elk City Rodeo Association are looking for individuals and organizations to participate in the 85th Annual Rodeo Parade. This year it will take place Sat., Sept. 2nd, at 10 a.m. The deadline to enter is Aug. 24th. Return the entry form to the Elk City Chamber of Commerce, located at the corner of Main and Broadway.
This year’s theme is “Scoot a Boot on Route 66,” and the winner of the best overall themed float will receive $100. All entries will need to check in at 515 S. Main St. in front of Hutchinson Oil between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. for parade placement. All of the entries must be in line no later than 9:15 a.m.
Parade categories are commercial, antique vehicles, beauty pageant, riding clubs, schools or school organizations, club organizations, and churches. There will be over $1700 in prizes awarded, and all of the categories will be awarded for first, second, and third place cash prizes and ribbons.
The rules for participants say that due to high temperatures and the length of the parade, the following rules have been made. This is a moving parade; all individuals must stay on their parade entries, no stopping or getting off to perform, the entry must be in continuous motion with no more than 30’ between entries if possible; if distributing candy or misc. items, throw to the curb to keep the children safe; place numbers on both sides of the entry; not responsible for accidents or injuries; after the entry has gone through the entire parade route, they will not be able to travel south on Main, but must go down S. Washington to 12th Street for access to Main Street; and no lining up or waiting on 6th Street or 7th Street, all entries must lineup south of railroad tracks at Main and 7th.
