Elk City High School Cross Country runners improved their times in the second Meet of the season. The team competed against 227 runners at the Watonga Cross Country Invitational on August 26.

Snow White was cast out of her own kingdom when her stepmother– beautiful, but jealous and cruel–heard from her mirror that Snow White was the most beautiful in the kingdom. But always, in time, these beautiful, kind heroines find a handsome prince, and magically live happily ever after.

Joe Francis, native of Beckham County, went to be with our Lord on August 18. Joe was born December 20, 1931, in his parents’ home in Texola to Earl and Sybil Francis where Earl was serving as an accomplished Banker and County Commissioner. The family moved to Sayre a few years later where Earl was elected to serve 4 terms as County Sheriff. Joe spent a few years of his early life at the County Jail where his family made residence and care taking for inmates.

A Hammon man has been released on bond on a $7,500 bond for charges of possession of a stolen or converted vehicle, possession of a vehicle with the intent to deprive the owner, and knowingly possessing stolen property.

The Labor Day Holiday is coming up this next Monday, 9/4, and I know most of us are looking forward to a 3–4-day break from work also. Hopefully, this long hot summer will come to an end soon too! Fall can’t arrive soon enough for me.

The Sayre Eagle football team opened the 2023 season by traveling to Cordell where they captured a 48 - 0 win over the Blue Devils last Friday evening. The Eagle starters scored 42 points in the first half before turning over the second half duties to the Eagle reserves. Eleven Eagles divided their 36 rushing attempts with Hunter Hanrahan leading in yards gained with 46 yards on 5 carries followed closely by Ayden Hendershot with 42 yards on 5 carries and Coy Capehart with36 yards on 2 carries. The Eagle defense was smothering as they held the Blue Devils to only 2 first downs and a total of 32 yards in the game. Leading the defense in tackles was Capehart with 8 and Zeke Curtis with 7 stops.

After months of negotiations and signing a non-disclosure agreement until that was completed, longtime Sayre residents Eric and Jenni Easter can now announce the partnership they have entered into purchasing the Oklahoma Cornhole Association.

The Sayre City Council recently awarded longtime employee Clyde “Pete” Lisbon for his remarkable 26 years of service to the city.
