Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! I hope this week finds you celebrating all the blessings that we have been given during this past year and cherishing your family. Enjoy your get-togethers and if you are traveling, be safe! I was looking back at last year when I was writing this column and it was actually snowing that Sunday in 2022. I wish it was doing this today, but at least it is supposed to get colder from Thanksgiving on through the following week too.

The Elk City Commissioners met for their regular meeting Wed., Nov. 15th, at 2 p.m. in City Hall. The agenda was light, with a public hearing concerning 602 N. Oklahoma, Jones Bradley Lots 13-18, Blk 13 held prior to opening the meeting. The owner was unable to be present.

Elk City – As part of National Rural Health Day, Great Plains Regional Medical Center, today announced it has been recognized with a 2023 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in Outcomes. Compiled by the Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards honor top quartile performance (i.e., 75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals in Quality, Outcomes and Patient Perspective.

Annual Augusta Metcalfe Art Competition

The Annual Augusta Metcalfe Art Competition was held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Break O’ Day Farm & Metcalfe Museum. In total, there were 442 entries from 9 schools. There were 103 winning entries and $1,810 was given as award money. This competition began in 2004 and each year the entries get better and better. There is an exceptionally talented group of young artists in our area and some great instructors who helped their students develop their artistic skills.
