In last week’s Beckham County Record, an article stated that a Beckham County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured in an altercation between two inmates and was taken to the emergency room.

The Merritt Oilers announced the following students as April Student of the Month: Kynsi Harmon, 7th Aaron Partain, 8th Joel Parra, 9th Preslie Taylor, 10th Elizabeth White, 11th Ella Porter, 12th The spotlight is on senior Ella Porter. Porter is the daughter of Travis and Heather Porter. She is active in basketball, weightlifting, Key Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Dirt is being moved at the historic location for Elk City’s new fire station, and workers recently uncovered some of that site’s history.

A 40-year-old Elk City man is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center on two $50,000 bonds for a combined $100,000 bond. Cody Ray James is being charged with domestic assault and battery, domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, joyriding, and injury to an emergency worker. The investigation began at approximately 5:19 pm on April 3 when the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office received a call advising that James had allegedly tried to hit a man with his truck and wrecked into a tree.

A 38-year-old man and a 43-year-old man being held in the Beckham County Detention Center have been charged with assault and battery after an alleged fight.

The Oklahoma Wildlife License Modernization Act was signed into law March 26 by Gov. Kevin Stitt after it previously passed the state House of Representatives and Senate. The measure streamlines and simplifies hunting and fishing licenses, and will provide funding for the Wildlife Conservation Department primarily by adjusting license costs to regional averages.
