Craig D. Lounsbrough said, “The difference between a ‘man’ and a ‘father’ is the former shares his genes, but later gives his life.”
With Father’s Day approaching, I sat down with some of the students at Elk City’s annual Summer Arts Program to discuss their fathers or father figures.
The children lit up when asked about their dad. The stories were varied, but the theme remained consistent. The love and protection these children felt from their dads was evident.
Pam Brown said, “Dads are most ordinary men turned into heroes, adventurers, storytellers, and singers of song.”
The other overall theme I observed among the children’s answers was centered around learning skills and hobbies from their fathers. These hallmark memories will clearly stand out for many years.
