Congratulations to recent Sayre High School graduate, Emma Ferrero, who is a 2024 recipient of the Oklahoma Education Award for Arts Excellence in Vocal Arts.

Happiness is a state of being that many people talk about and long for, but few truly experience it. As I work with people, something that has become clear to me is that unhappy people often exhibit many of the same character traits and habits. Now there’s no questions that we all have bad days, even weeks when we step into all seven areas that I’m going to mention this week. The difference between a happy and unhappy life is how long we stay there. So here is the first characteristic of an unhappy person: 1. You believe life is hard, and you expect it to be hard, and you resent that it really is hard.

The annual Memorial Day Service was held at the Veterans’ Memorial at Fairlawn Cemetery, Monday, May 27th, at 10:30 a.m. Organizer Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning welcomed the veterans and guests to the ceremony. He turned the program over to Shawn Wilson, who provided the sound system, and sang several patriotic songs.

Berlin Community Building will host the annual fundraiser dinner on June 8, 2024, at 6:00 pm. The monies raised will be used for the upkeep of the building and to continue the monthly dinners. As money is available, building improvements are completed. The menu will consist of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls, salad, homemade desserts and is by donation.

“Consider this our Save the Date announcement,” laughed Dust Bowl Days board member Kay Allen. “The days of the festival will be July 19-21.”

We would like to announce Emily Easter as the second recipient of The Rizley Family Education Scholarship. The Rizley family established the scholarship to provide financial assistance to a student who exhibited a passion for a career in teaching.

The Erick-Texola Alumni Celebration this past weekend seemed to be a big hit with everyone! It was nice to see Erick so busy again with more people coming to town! I missed seeing several but maybe next time.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) today sent a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, and FBI Director Christopher Wray to request a briefing and information regarding two Jordanian nationals who attempted to enter Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.
