CHERYL SMITH
Cheryl grew up in Ardmore and attended public school there. She graduated with the class of 1977. After high school, she went to Oklahoma State University, where she met Andy Smith. On June 6, 1980, she and Andy were married in Ardmore. To this union, two daughters were born, Holly and Amanda. In 1981, Cheryl and Andy moved to Erick, where they resided for the remainder of Cheryl’s life. Cheryl worked at Rural Water and Farmers Co-Op until 2003. In 2003, she enrolled in Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse at several places throughout her nursing career, including Sayre Memorial Hospital, LifeSpring Home Health, Oklahoma Advantage Care, Indian Health Services, and Clinton Memorial Hospital. However, she found her true calling when she was employed at her last and favorite workplace, Hensley Nursing Home in Sayre, OK.
Cheryl loved the Lord and spent many years active in the church through teaching GAs (Girls in Action), teaching Sunday School, and being a worship leader in the choir.
Cheryl enjoyed spending time with her husband and best friend, Andy. After her cancer treatments, he would take her to her favorite restaurants in Oklahoma City and Altus, and she would always say how she looked forward to those impromptu dates. She loved their life and the family that they made together.
Her favorite hobby was spending time with her family, especially with her seven grandkids. She was their biggest fan and would come to as many sporting events as she could to cheer them on. She also loved it when they would come to visit her. She always took the time to plan special crafts and play games with them.
