BETTYE MAE COLEMAN CARNAHAN

Bettye Mae “Coleman” Carnahan walked on from this life June 27th, 2024. She was a long-time member of New Liberty, Oklahoma. Bettye was born to Charles Lawrence Coleman and Alice Pearl Mannen Coleman in the Delhi community on October 10, 1932. She attended Delhi High School and graduated in 1950. Bettye went on to attend Sayre Jr. College and graduated with an Associate degree in History in 1952. She later went to work in 1952 in the Community Hospital and clinic of Elk City, OK, in the business office as a cashier and office manager. The Community Hospital was the first Co-op hospital in the nation. In 1958 Bettye and her husband moved to Pasadena, CA where he attended college, and she worked for United Geophysical on the early form of computer machines. They returned after college to New Liberty. Bettye continued to work at the hospital clinic until 1963. She saw the introduction of computers and medical insurance, often threatening insurance companies with reporting them to the state insurance commissioner, on hospital letterhead, if they didn’t pay on members policies. After 1963 she was an active participant in the family farming and ranching business. Bettye was a long-time member of the Baptist Church of Elk City. On Nov 2nd, 1955, she married Herb J. Carnahan. Unto this union was born 2 children, Flint Jason Carnahan and Lisa Dawn Carnahan Miller. Of all of Bettye’s accomplishments her children and grandchildren were her greatest delight. She is survived by her 2 children, Flint and Lisa and their spouses, Leah Marie (Belotti) Carnahan and Jason Andrew Miller, 3 grandchildren Henry Joseph Carnahan, Oliver James Carnahan and WyvWren Pearl Miller. She is also survived by one sister Esther Pearl Coleman Flowers, brother-in-law Joe Dale Flowers, nephews, Mike Flowers and wife Angela, Greg Wilson and wife Marci, and Brent Wilson and a host of other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Herb J. Carnahan, sister Charlene (Coleman) Wilson, and niece Melissa Mance.
