Gary grew up in Leedey, Oklahoma where he attended school graduating in 1961.

During his high school years he began working at Leedey Lumber and as a senior enlisted in the United States National Guard along with 8 of his classmates so they could remain together during basic training at Ft. Linwood, Missouri. He was married to Karen Sue (Day) in Camargo, Oklahoma on June 16, 1963. Together they made their home in Leedey, Erick, and eventually Elk City, Oklahoma where Gary managed the True Value Lumber and Hardware stores where they raised their family. It was while they were living in Erick, Oklahoma that Gary began with the Erick Volunteer Fire Department and continued with the Elk City Volunteer Fire Department retiring after 25 years of combined service to those communities. In the late 1990’s Gary remained with True Value and saw it through the transition to ACE Hardware.

Gary, always being civically minded, was always active coaching little league baseball teams, coaching American Legion baseball teams, played fast pitch softball, and even refereed basketball games in his younger years. He was always looking to make the communities he lived in better and served on the Rodeo of Champions Board as president for 17 years and still currently held a seat as a board member being in his 36th year. In what little spare time Gary had, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time in the outdoors, attending his grandchildren sporting events, and spending time with his friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Stacey Haney; and 2 brothers, Roy Lee and Dale Haney.

Gary is survived by his wife, Karen, of the home; 2 children, Angie Clinton and husband, Mike, Elk City, OK and Brad Haney and wife, Jennifer, Angwin, CA; 6 grandchildren, Brett Davis and wife, Margo, David Clinton and wife, Whitney, Nikyla Hatfield and husband, Trey; Savannah Thackery and fiance`, Russell Meyer, Casey Haney and finance`, Bradley Chapin, and Ben Haney and companion, K’Leigh Keesee; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great grandchild on the way; 1 brother, Eldon Haney and wife, Cathy, Leedey, OK; 1 sister, Elva Jo Mahaffey, Yukon, OK; sister-in-law, Susan Haney, Elk City, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.
