CALVIN NEAL

Calvin 'Dale' Neal was born on February 27th, 1928 in Berlin, OK to Charles Holiday and Elodia Nell (Fetty) Neal. He passed on August 2nd, 2024 at his home in Sayre, OK at the age of 96 years, 5 months, and 6 days.

 

Dale grew up in Berlin, where he attended and graduated with the class of 1946. After high school Dale joined the army and earned the World War II Victory Medal. After the war he was transferred to the reserve. After serving in World War II he work worked as a line man for Rural Electric and help installed the original electric lines in the Berlin area. On December 18, 1948, Dale married Ima Jean Haynes and to this union two children were born Glen Ray and a daughter Anna Bell that passed at birth. The family made their home in Sayre, OK. Dale worked at a Phillips 66 service station. In 1950 Dale was called back to the army to serve in the Korean War. When he returned from Korea, he began his career in selling auto parts. Dale worked for Flowers Auto in Erick, OK and Sayre, OK. Dale eventually bought Flowers Auto in the 60s. He owned and operated it for over 50 years before he retired and sold the business. After Ima Jean passed in 2000, he married Imogene Gertrude Simmons on July 20, 2005.

Dales hobbies included enjoying the outdoors where he hunted and fished. Dale was a great gardener and was known for his vegetables the garden provided. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading old dime paper back western novels. Over the years Dale made many friends in the Sayre running the auto shop and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Nell Neal, wife Ima Jean Neal, wife Imogene Neal, son Glen Neal, infant daughter Anna Bell Neal, brothers Alvin and Delmar Neal, sisters Ethel Whitledge, Audrey Drew, Mildred Bowers, Louise Macklin, and Dolly Fraley.

He is survived by his niece Helen Welch of Sayre, OK and Lawanda Thetford of Elk City, OK ; nephew Jerry Whitledge and wife Ruth of Sayre, OK; great nephew Lesley Neal of Berlin, OK; many other extended family and a host of friends.
