GAYLE ELLIOT

Gayle June Elliot was born August 27th, 1936 to Ernest J. and Clara (Hogan) Bell in McAlester, Oklahoma. She passed on July 18th, 2024 in Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years, 10 months, and 21 days.

 

Gayle attended grade school in McAlester, Oklahoma then moving with her family to Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1949 the family moved to Elk City where Gayle attended Elk City Schools from the 7th through the 10th grade. In 1943 Gayle moved with her family to California where she finished her Junior and Senior years and graduated in 1955 from Hayward High School. November 25, 1955 Gayle married Roy Dean Herren and to this union two children were born, Brenda Gayle and Bobby Dean. In 1958 they moved to Elk City, Oklahoma where they owned and operated the Fina Gas Station. In 1960 they moved to Oklahoma City where they owned and operated a plumbing business. In 1964 the family moved back to Elk City and became the managers (and later the owners) of the Flamingo Motel. On February 11, 1977 Gayle married David Lynn Elliott in Fort Smith, Arkansas and made their home in Elk where they owned and operated the Queen City Trailer Park, and the Flamingo Motel.

Gayle loved to played Bridge, she belonged to 3 bridged clubs. She also enjoyed playing tennis and was a lifetime member of the SOS girls. She was a hostess for the Miss Elk City Pageant for several years and was a big supporter and volunteer of the Meals on Wheels program. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for 60 years, where she sang in the choir for many years. Her biggest love was to spend time with, and spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gayle is preceded in death by her husband David Elliot, parents, Ernest and Clara Bell, brother, Phillip Bell and sonin- law, Bobby Johnson.

She is survived by her children Bobby Herren of Elk City, OK, Brenda Johnson of Elk City, OK, Joyce (Elliott) Camus of Pensacola, FL, Keli (Elliott) Hawthorne of Concord, NC; grandchildren, Blake Johnson and wife, Davona of Hammon, OK, Bradley Johnson and wife, Toyna of Elk City, OK, Jamey Herren and wife, Judith of Reydon, OK, Jaicee Powers and husband, Paul of Marlow, OK, Chris Miller of Florida, Jennifer Noury of Florida, Michael Snedeker of Florida, Paul Schultz of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Paula (Schultz) Hammet of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Carl Schultz of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, Curtis Schultz of Charlotte, North Carolina, Zachary Schultz of Fernandina, Florida, Josef Blackwell of San Antonio, TX, and Jaqulyne Blackwell of Concord, North Carolina; twenty eight great grandchildren Hayden, Bentley, Channing, Chason, Autumn, Jaxon, Trevor, Josh, Julie, Jentry, Justin, Kayla, Brieanna, Abigail, Zach, Arlo, Elias, Leah, Ava, June, Ayden, Abriella, Nathan, Ellianna, Justin, Jake, Jonas, and Lucas and a host of other relatives and friends.
