CLAYTON CALLAHAN

Clayton Earl Callahan was born March 15th, 1941 in Saguache, Colorado to Gertrude Alene (Laxton) and Earl Lee Callahan. He passed away in Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 84 years and 5 days.

Clayton spent his childhood in the Delhi, and Sayre, Oklahoma area. He graduated from Delhi High School and shortly after met and married Kay Dodson in Sayre, Oklahoma. To this union 2 children were born, Britt and Bridget. It may have been the “Summer of Love” for the rest of the U.S.A., but in rural western Oklahoma, four young ministers were eking out a living for the low wages of the 1960’s. When Clayton Callahan built himself a steel carport, it attracted considerable attention from the country folk, and soon a neighbor was clamoring to have one. The first carport was sold. Clayton along with his youngest brother Neil Callahan and their two best friends, decided to see if a living could be made selling carports and the company Redibuilt Metal Products was formed.

Clayton moved his business to Elk City and continued to grow expand until his retirement. Clayton spent some time in Mustang, Oklahoma helping his nephew, Curt Callahan, with Callahan Steel Buildings before returning to Elk City to be near his family. Clayton loved reading, camping, traveling, and being in the outdoors. Everyone that had the opportunity to meet Clayton loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Britt Callahan; 3 grandsons, Brandon Stout, Clay Callahan, and Hayden Callahan.

Clayton is survived by his daughter, Bridget Stout and husband, Don, Elk City, OK; granddaughter, Melissa Stout, Elk City, OK; 3 great grandchildren, Trystan Stout, Bryson Fulton, and Brealyn Fulton; great great granddaughter, Salem Stout; daughter- in-law, Suzan Callahan; 3 brothers, Neil Callahan, Sayre, OK, Joe Callahan and wife, Carol, Pottsboro, TX, and Scott Callahan and wife, Marie, Phoenix, AZ and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
