Elk City High School Cross Country varsity boys earned their spot at State during the 4A Regionals at Oklahoma Bible College on October 21st. The boys ran their way to 7th place against 93 runners from 12 schools at the State qualifi er.
Leading the Elk City team was senior Jack Morgan, who came in 4th place with a personal best time of 16:29.18. Freshman Luke Thomas finished in 34th place with a personal best time of 19:03.01 with senior Zach Rhodes less than a second behind him in 35th place. Also pushing the Elks to State were freshman Colton Nebhut in 60th place, senior Jaser Reyes in 70th place, sophomore Tommy Bailey in 72nd place and sophomore Sonny Holladay in 82nd place.
ECHS also had two runners competing against 80 others in the 4A varsity girls’ 2-mile race. Junior Gabby Gilliam was the first Elk City runner to cross the finish line in 36th place, and freshman Natilee Youngbull came in at 62nd place. The girls’ Cross Country season ended at Regionals as the runners failed to advance to State.
The ECHS boys will compete against the top 21 teams in 4A at the OSSAA State Cross Country Meet on Saturday, October 28 at Edmond Santa Fe High School in Edmond.
