Oklahoma HOSA is in full swing. Fifty-three Western Technology Center students attended the Oklahoma HOSA Fall Leadership conference on October 17th in Norman, OK. Oklahoma HOSA Future Health Professionals is a student organization for any high school or career tech student that is interested in the medical field. Over 34 career tech and school districts from across the state make up the over 8000-member strong organization.

Over 1300 HOSA students gathered in Norman for leadership training and networking with HOSA members from around the state. Students engaged in activities that discouraged unsafe driving practices, public speaking, motivation, and networking skills. The highlight of the day was watching Western Technology Center students Madison Pittman (Merritt) and Hunter Brashears (Sentinel) elected as Oklahoma State HOSA Officers for 2023-2024.

On October 3rd, Madison and Hunter assembled with 45 other HOSA members from around the state in Stillwater, OK. They were judged by a panel of Oklahoma Career Tech professionals on HOSA knowledge, cold reading skills, public speaking, and interview skills. After a rigorous interview the 45 students were cut to the 15 best HOSA students in the state.

On October 17th the 15 students campaigned to the HOSA body at HOSA Fall Leadership Conference for 10 state officer spots. Madison said, “I feel honored to be recognized statewide as a leader. I hope I leave people wanting to express themselves and impact others to help them make a difference.” It was an exciting day for everyone, and having the opportunity to serve Oklahoma HOSA for the next year is an incredible responsibility.

Madison and Hunter will serve the following year as ambassadors for Oklahoma HOSA. They will serve as liaisons for Oklahoma HOSA at the Oklahoma State Capitol and in Washington D.C. They will also represent Oklahoma HOSA as delegates at the 2024 International HOSA leadership Conference in Houston, TX.

Madison and Hunter will also assist in planning statewide events for Oklahoma HOSA and assist chapters in raising funds and awareness for the Be the Match foundation. Be the Match helps pair blood donors to recipient’s that need donor cells due to blood cancers. Western Technology Center HOSA has been a proud sponsor of Be the Match and continues to raise awareness and funds for the past three years. To date Western Technology Center HOSA has donated over $3000.

This next year will be filled with many exciting opportunities to serve Oklahoma HOSA. Hunter stated, “I am humbled for the ability to serve the members of Oklahoma HOSA, and I thank them for their faith and encouragement. I want to make a personal connection with every person. To encourage and help everyone to reach their goal.” Western Technology Center is blessed to have so many students that give their best every day. Madison and Hunter are just a sample of the quality of students that all 14 schools send to Western Technology Center. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to Educate People for Success.
