The Board of Education, Erick Independent School District Number 51, County of Beckham, State of Oklahoma, met in regular meeting October 9, 2023 in the board conference room. President, Justin Miller called the meeting to order at 7:01p.m. Members present were Will Laster, and Brandon Bussey. Member Colby Holland was absent.
Also present were Bill Derryberry, Superintendent; Marty Woolsey, Minute Clerk; Brian Collins, High School Principal and guest, Brian Coker #2 Public Input None #19 Will Laster made and Brandon Bussey seconded a motion to appoint Brian Coker to the vacant school board seat #4. Members voted Bussey – yes, Holland - absent, Laster – yes, Miller – yes – Motion carried.
#3 Brandon Bussey made and Will Laster seconded a motion to approve the minutes from the September 18, 2023 regular meeting. Members voted Bussey – yes, Coker – yes, Holland - absent, Laster – yes, Miller – yes – Motion carried.
#4 Will Laster made and Brandon Bussey seconded a motion to approve General Fund PO’s #139 – 154, corresponding warrants and change orders increasing previously encumbered amount. Members voted Bussey – yes, Coker – yes, Holland - absent, Laster – yes, Miller – yes – Motion carried.
#5 Will Laster made and Brandon Bussey seconded a motion to approve fundraisers. Members voted Bussey – yes, Coker – yes, Holland - absent, Laster – yes, Miller – yes – Motion carried.
#6 Public input on the Estimate of Needs for the School
Year 2023-2024. None #7 Brandon Bussey made and Will Laster seconded a motion to approve the Estimate of Needs as approved by the CountyExciseBoard. Members voted Bussey – yes, Coker – yes, Holland - absent, Laster – yes, Miller – yes – Motion carried.
#8 Will Laster made and Brandon Bussey seconded a motion to approve the annual school board election resolution for board seat #4. Members voted Bussey – yes, Coker – yes, Holland - absent, Laster – yes, Miller – yes – Motion carried.
#9 Will Laster made and Brandon Bussey seconded a motion to approve the 2024 School Board meeting dates. Members voted Bussey – yes, Coker – yes, Holland - absent, Laster – yes, Miller – yes – Motion carried.
#10 Will Laster made and Brandon Bussey seconded a motion to approve OSSBA policies FFAB. Members voted Bussey – yes, Coker – yes, Holland - absent, Laster – yes, Miller – yes – Motion carried.
#11 Brandon Bussey made and Will Laster seconded a motion to the updated Concurrent Student Agreement. Members voted Bussey – yes, Coker – yes, Holland - absent, Laster – yes, Miller – yes – Motion carried.
#12 Will Laster made and Brandon Bussey seconded a motion to approve the Statutory Waiver/Deregulation Application for Library Media Specialist for the 2023-2024 school year. Members voted Bussey – yes, Coker – yes, Holland - absent, Laster – yes, Miller – yes – Motion carried.

Region 9 meeting #15, 16 & 17 Will Laster made and Brandon Bussey seconded a motion to convene in executive session to discuss the following: a. discuss the appointment of an individual and/or interview candidates for vacant school board seat #4. b. Discuss plans and advertising for superintendent, for the 2024-2025 school year. . Members voted Bussey – yes, Coker – yes, Holland - absent, Laster – yes, Miller – yes – Motion carried.
#18 Acknowledge the return for the board from executive session.
Brandon Bussey stated “The board convened into executive session at 8:20pm. All members were present in executive session except Colby Holland. The board met in executive session to discuss the following: a. appointment of an individual and/or interview candidates for vacant school board seat #4. b. Discuss plans and advertising for superintendent, for the 20242025 school year. No action was taken by the board in executive session. The board returned to open session at 9:24pm.

The board was adjourned at 9:26p.m. to meet next on November 13, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. in the board conference room of the Erick Schools Administration Building, 325 S. Pine, Erick, OK 73645.
