An arrest warrant was filed against a 23-year-old Elk City woman in the Beckham County District Court on September 27.

Ashley Nicole Miller was charged with child neglect.

Miller faces life imprisonment or imprisonment not exceeding one year in a county jail if convicted.

The investigation began on September 19, 2023, after an Elk City Police Department detective was contacted by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services requesting a joint-response to a possible child neglect after a newborn reportedly tested positive for drugs.

The detective arrived at Great Plains Regional Medical Center and spoke to Miller, the mother.

Miller allegedly admitted to using methamphetamine “here and there” during her pregnancy.

The detective received the umbilical cord test, which allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
