The Sayre and Elk City Sonic restaurants are both franchises through the same company.
For that reason, Sayre Sonic’s General Manager Macy Eminger contacted the Beckham County Record, excited to share that an Elk City Sonic employee had won a significant grant for Sayre Public Schools at the annual Sonic Convention.
“So, the Limeades for Learning Program is something done through the Sonic Foundation to underwrite grants for public schools,” Eminger explained. “The program takes a percentage of proceeds from each Sonic from drinks and gives it in grants to the local schools. Teacher just have to go to our website and write what it is they are wanting to use the money for. If no one from that local school asks for it, then it may go to another area school. But, I know we have had teachers from Sayre go through that work in the past.”
The Sonic Convention was held in San Diego from September 11-14. Six Beckham County employees attended.
“There were over 6,000 people there, Eminger explained. “One was Niki Martin. Niki started at Sayre and graduated from high school in Sayre, but she does work at Elk City now. At the convention, they had a scavenger hunt. Among all the people there, Niki was one of only four asked to get on stage in this competition. Well, she ended up winning. In doing so, she wont $1,000 to give to a school of her choice. She picked Sayre.”
The group also got to see new things possibly coming to the Sonic menu.
