A 31-year-old Sayre woman has been released from the Beckham County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond after being charged with child neglect.
Brittany Nicole Burch faces up to life imprisonment or imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding more than a year if convicted.
The investigation began on September 7, 2023, when a District II assistant district attorney requested a joint-response investigation with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services in regards to a newborn who reportedly tested positive for drugs.
The newborn was reported born in August.
Documents claim the child tested positive for methamphetamines and amphetamines.
The newborn allegedly also had “fetal distress.”
On September 20, an Elk City Police Department detective interviewed Burch.
At that time, Burch allegedly confessed to using methamphetamine during her pregnancy.
