It is no secret to anyone familiar with Elk City athletics that the Clinton Red Tornados have long been with town’s top sports rival. The match-up is something of legend for those lucky enough to have watched it.

Although the tough Elk City team did ultimately lose the conference pairing, the 21-7 is bigger than the game actually played out. Elk City held their own through much of it and, had just a few things gone differently, the score would have reflected how tight the matching truly was.

At the end of the first quarter, Clinton had managed to score a touchdown. However, Elk City denied their extra points with a 6-0 score.

In the second quarter, Elk City’s defense showed out and held the Red Tornados at 6-0.

Elk City fans, who traveled by the hundreds to Clinton ,were delighted when Elk City punched in their first touchdown in the third quarter. Elk City’s extra kick was good for a score of 7.

However, Clinton matched that touchdown and earned a 2-point conversion, bringing the third quarter total to 14-7 in Clinton’s and tangle.

Clinton did manage to score a final touchdown in the fourth quarter for a 21-7 final.

Elk City Assistant Coach Andy Peffer said the game was important because it was a district game.

The team has no major injuries to report. Coach Peffer also noted, “Catch Geno was the player of the game with a good performance on offense and defense.”
