Girl Scouts Recruitment Event Set

ELK CITY – Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma will host an informational meeting for parents of girls interested in joining a local Girl Scout Troop from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7 at One Church, located at 200 E. Broadway Ave.

ELK CITY – Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma will host an informational meeting for parents of girls interested in joining a local Girl Scout Troop from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7 at One Church, located at 200 E. Broadway Ave.

Lynette Blevins, GSWESTOK membership specialist, will present information on how for more than 100 years Girl Scouts has been providing opportunities for girls to grow through friendships, mentoring and activities. Local volunteers will also assist girls who attend with a Girl Scouts-related activity.

Reservations are required to attend the meeting. Parents should text the words “Elk City” (405) 442-0684 to reserve their place.

Girl Scouts is open to girls from kindergarten through 12th grade. Girl Scouts learn important life skills, benefiting girls in these five areas: strong sense of self, positive values, challenge seeking, healthy relationships and community problem-solving.

In recent years, the organization has deepened its focus on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), helping prepare girls for careers once unavailable to them. Girl Scouts also learn business skills and entrepreneurship through the Girl Scout Cookie program.
