Elk City people charged with animal cruelty

A 33-year-old Elk City man and a 19-year-old woman have been charged with animal cruelty.

A 33-year-old Elk City man and a 19-year-old woman have been charged with animal cruelty.

The animal in question was reportedly a “pit bull mix.”

James Lee Cupp and Morgan Paige Green face up to five years in imprisonment and a $5,000 fine.

The pair was charged in the Beckham County District Court on September 19.

The investigation began on July 16 when the Elk City Police Department Animal Care officer was dispatched to the 400 block of West 8th Street.

A report had been made regarding a dog with alleged broken front legs.

The report also stated the dog was on a house’s front porch.

Upon arrival, the ACO saw a pit bull mix on the porch.

The person at that house said the dog belonged to the person next door.

The officer reportedly said the dog couldn’t use his front legs.

The officer noted that the dog was friendly with the wagging tale.

The dog was secured and given food, water, and a dog bed.

A local veterinarian reportedly examined the dog and found that the dog had injuries due to “blunt force trauma to the head and neck region.”

The vet allegedly also said the injury happened “some time ago” and “lacked proper care.”

The dog was humanely euthanized.
