A Review:

Sayre High School stars shine in Red Carpet Theater play “Chicago”

The Red Carpet Theater continues to impress with their 2023 slate. Each production seems to get better, although all have felt closer to big-budget performances in big cities. What they do with small budgets and local talent is truly unique.

Two of the brightest stars on Jefferson were Sayre students Cassidy Crabb and Emma Ferrero.

To say that the two Sayre Eagles soared high is an understatement.

Under the bright lights and near-perfect costuming, Crabb and Ferrero felt less like novice community theater volunteers and more like seasoned professionals.

The production was based upon the famous play by Maurine Dallas Watkins and the script adaption by David Thompson.

Crabb played one of the lead roles as the foxy Roxie Hart, a housewife charged in the murder of her lover.

In this role, Crabb perfectly portrays the beautiful blonde bombshell, angling with her slick attorney, Billy Flynn (masterfully played by Lake Carpenter), to make Hart a media darling.

In one of the night’s best performances, Crabb and Carpenter serve as a ventriloquist and a dummy, illustrating how Flynn will coordinate Hart’s words and movements to be a more sympathetic defendant.

Masterfully, the two actors were in perfected unison.

Ferrero was equally impressive as Liz, one of the Six Murderesses of Cook County Jail.

She was flawless in her every movement, solo, and ensemble.

Both girls hit all the high notes in musical numbers.

The set and costume changes seemed effortless. The rest of the crew was equally impressive.

Honestly, the show was comparable to those that cost far more in Oklahoma City.

The show has now closed, but expect to see the two in future productions somewhere.
