By Cherrie Nutley, SWODA Ombudsman Supervisor, 580-5625032 You may be aware that there is an increase in COVID-19 outbreaks in our long-term care facilities. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention defines an outbreak as any single new case of COVID-19 among residents or staff.

Thanks to a robust vaccination program and infection control measures the affected population is presenting with fewer and/or less significant symptoms. Area nursing homes and assisted living facilities are posting notices at their front entrances of COVID status.

If you are experiencing symptoms or have tested positive for COVID-19, please plan to reschedule visits once you are feeling better and testing negative. Some minimal screening is in place at some facilities. If there are active cases, then masks will be required for all staff and visitors. Facilities will not be locked down, but preventative measures will be in place to ensure residents are protected from the virus.

Please show your love by staying home if you have any illness or symptoms of illness. If you have questions or concerns regarding long-term care, please contact Cherrie Nutley at 580-562-5032.
