Erick Ramblings

The Labor Day Holiday is coming up this next Monday, 9/4, and I know most of us are looking forward to a 3–4-day break from work also. Hopefully, this long hot summer will come to an end soon too! Fall can’t arrive soon enough for me.

The Labor Day Holiday is coming up this next Monday, 9/4, and I know most of us are looking forward to a 3–4-day break from work also. Hopefully, this long hot summer will come to an end soon too! Fall can’t arrive soon enough for me.

This Wednesday evening, August 30th, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Erick First Baptist Church, there will a “Back to School Bash”, with free hot dogs and games set up. Fusion enrollment will take place also that night. Everyone is welcome to attend and join in the fun and fellowship.

Coming up on Sunday, September 10th, from 11:30-1:00 p.m., at the Eric High School Cafeteria, there will be a “Soft Taco” dinner sponsored by the Erick Senor Class of 2024. Meals will be by donation only, and they will offer carry-outs as well.

Erick is planning a “Purple People Eater Fest”, with many activities planned for the three day event, beginning on September 29th and lasting through October 1st. There will be a Purple People Eater Picture Show (a movie in the part at 8:00 on Friday night, a Purple Parade downtown on Saturday morning at 10:00; Sheb’s Shindig, a street dance on Saturday night from 8-11 p.m., featuring the Jimmy Lee Jordan Band, a pancake breakfast planned for Sunday morning, plus Wooley’s Bazaar, a three day vendor’s market to display and sell their items. Not to mention a Car Smash, dunk tank, and a raffle for a hog hunt (knives only!) at the Lost Creek Ranch. The hog hunt winner will be announced Saturday night. Tickets for the hog hunt raffle are $5 each. The town should be full of life these three days and a big thanks to all who put this together for all to enjoy. Sympathy and prayers go out to the family of Willie Mae (Gipson) Sappington-Burrows. She grew up in Texola. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Prayers for comfort are extended to the family of Evelyn Ruth Sollars. She recently moved to Colorado Springs from her home in Amarillo, TX. She was a member of the Class of 1962.

Happy Anniversary wishes to Tony and Susan Sanderson, who will be celebrating on 8/31 & to Gary & Paula Harris on 9/5.
